Columbus Ohio Born & Raised; I work in the mortgage industry & Dj
How long have you been DJing?
I took interest in DJing back in 2010. I was actually in California at the time. it all started when I seen a really cool funky tri-colored pair of headphones so I bought them.I think subconsciously I felt like a DJ already after that purchase. I was always really good at making mixed cd's and had a slight attraction to DJing already. I purchased a low grade program before heading back to Columbus and pretty much mastered it during the duration of the 5 hour flight. I used the software for the first 1.5 years of my DJ career just to get down the basics. As I took more of an interest in what started as a hobby, i started to invest more and more time & money in equipment, merchandise business cards and learning. I knew it was what I wanted to do almost instantly, the connection I had with the music 7 Blending was so natural, so fluent. I've always loved Music, but DJing took me to much greater heights.
What inspires you? How do you incorporate that inspiration into music?
Music inspires me. People inspire me. Creating that bond for people inspires me. I believe music is a healer, its one thing that we all have in common that we love. I've never once met a person that said they "HATE" music. Music brings people together, it touches peoples hearts & souls and thats what inspires me. When I DJ I always make it a point to meet with my clients to get a feel for what direction they are wanting to go musically for their event. Upon doing that it gives me a better idea of what I need to prepare for which is just a perk, I could go without the consultation but I like to build that relationship and give my clients a little sense of ease by meeting and having an understanding as to what it is they want. We've all planned parties and we've all been stressed so thats just one less thing to worry about. I do well with catering to all crowds, it's actually something i pride myself on. I pay attention to all the details, all the demographics, its important to me. I've never been that dj that just plays what I want to hear, I cater to the people.
Where do you find the new music you put into your mixes?
Honestly, finding new music is a daily project; I refer to it as homework cause thats exactly what it feels like. Theres always new music, remixes, clean edits, dance mixes etc it never stops so of course I study everyday because theres nothing more disappointing when a person wants a song and you don't have it. There is no one set location to tracking music, I use just about every torrent site known to man, and I also purchase alot of music. Also there DJ pool's that you can get memberships to which makes the whole music hunt process alot easier.
Do you have signature style that you incorporate into your music?
Nope, I wing it every single time. It's a bit of an adrenaline rush for me to freestyle DJ. Never knowing what i'm going to play next thoughts racing, I Love it, it also leaves so much more room for me to be creative.
Are there any music festivals or concerts this year that you are attending?
When I'm not working I try to support local musicians/ djs, artist, designers etc as much as possible, I believe that's important as a growing/ starving artist myself. Currently I plan to attend the Beyonce & Jay-Z one the run concert in June, and a few local shows. One artist I've taken interest in particularly goes by the name Tae Fresh, I'll be attending a few of his shows this summer.
What new artists should we look out for in 2014?
Some artists I'd recommend keeping an eye on is Tae Fresh, Fetti Nation, Lorine Chia, Curtis Williams of (Two-9), Fly Union, K. Camp, Chance The Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Ink, Snootie Wild, Que, Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Kevin Gates, Oscar Wild (Caked up Remix master), Jayceeoh, Libertye, James Blake, Disclosure, Daley, Yuna, Tori Kelly, XXYYXX, Lapalux, FKA TWIGS, Sam Smith, Chvrches, Cherub, Bag Raiders, Dj Sliink, DJ Snake, Dj Fresh, Dj Salva.
